Every year, millions of companion animals enter the rescue system, creating a critical overpopulation crisis. Animal shelters and rescue organizations are being pushed far past their physical and financial limits. Despite the tireless efforts of staff and volunteers, rescues simply cannot keep up with the staggering number of animals arriving at their doors. Because these facilities face severe capacity strains and a lack of basic resources, millions of healthy, adoptable animals face high euthanasia rates simply due to a lack of space. This is a systemic resource failure that communities cannot solve through adoptions alone. Our community safety nets are breaking, and vulnerable animals are paying the ultimate price. Local and state lawmakers must stop relying solely on public goodwill and step up to fund a permanent solution. Sign this petition and call on our lawmakers to prioritize animal welfare and immediately allocate funding and resources.
