Tell RFK Jr.: Protect Pregnant Migrant Children

The Trump administration is placing pregnant unaccompanied migrant children, some as young as 12, in remote South Texas facilities with limited access to the medical care many of these vulnerable youth need. 

The administration began the policy in 2025 and many advocates believe it’s because Texas does not allow abortion. This has left the girls, at least half of whom became pregnant as a result of rape, with fewer options.

On top of that, the area where girls are housed has one of the higher rates of infant mortality in Texas. Already, 4 of the 21 girls there have required relocation out of state for medical care. 

Tell RFK Jr. to protect pregnant unaccompanied migrant children and ensure they are housed where specialized medical care is accessible. 

Young girls who are pregnant, especially those between the ages of 10 and 14 are an inherently high risk population who need specialized obstetrics care. Waiting until they are in a medical emergency to transfer them out of state to get medical care is extremely dangerous. 

Many young migrants have already endured extreme hardship to get to the United States. They deserve compassionate and holistic care and should not have to endure more trauma during one of the most vulnerable times of their lives.

The petition to RFK Jr. reads: "Current policies that place pregnant migrant youth in remote South Texas facilities are putting children at risk. HHS must review its placement instructions for pregnant migrant youth, require documented individual medical assessments, and ensure children are housed where appropriate specialized care is available."
