Stand with Dr. Fauci Against GOP Attacks

GOP senators just voted to hold Dr. Anthony Fauci, an American hero, in contempt of Congress. 

For decades, Dr. Fauci served the American people as one of the nation's leading infectious disease experts. During the  pandemic, he became a target for right-wing anger because he refused to back Trump's lies about COVID. Instead he put public health first, doing his best to provide us with the best facts we had at the time.

Republicans want revenge, calling him to a Congressional hearing with the goal of humiliating him by releasing his private diaries and looking for a way to prosecute him. Fauci stood up to their bullying – invoking the fifth amendment instead of answering their questions. Now GOP senators voted to hold him in contempt of Congress.

Stand with Dr. Fauci: Tell Congress to reject Rand Paul's stunt and stop using hearings to humiliate, intimidate, and scapegoat public health officials.

Dr. Fauci spent almost four decades in public service leading the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by George W. Bush for his work on HIV/AIDS.

But instead of respecting that record of public service, Republicans are using Congress to continue Trump’s revenge campaign against people who challenged him, investigated him, or refused to repeat his lies.

If Congress can punish witnesses for exercising constitutional rights, it sends a dangerous message to scientists, doctors, civil servants, and public officials everywhere: tell the truth, and you could become the next target.

We cannot let congressional hearings become a weapon for political revenge.
