Steve Pearce—nominated to lead the Bureau of Land Management (BLM)—has a long record of putting oil, gas, ranching, and corporate interests ahead of wildlife and the lands they depend on. Now his confirmation is being rushed: the Senate has advanced his nomination as part of an en bloc package, bundling 49 nominees into a single vote to speed approval and limit scrutiny. That should set off loud alarm bells for anyone who cares about wildlife and the places they call home. The BLM oversees 245 MILLION acres of public land—some of the most important wildlife habitat in the country. These lands support iconic species like wild horses and burros, pronghorn, wolves, mule deer, elk, and greater sage grouse, along with countless migratory birds, pollinators, and already-threatened species struggling to survive. But Pearce has repeatedly opposed protections for vulnerable wildlife and backed expanded drilling, mining, and development across these landscapes. That means more fragmented migration routes for pronghorn, more pressure on declining sage grouse populations, and more destruction of fragile desert ecosystems where species like kit foxes and burrowing owls depend on intact habitat. Even worse, his leadership could open the door to selling off or transferring public lands—putting millions of acres of wildlife habitat at risk of privatization and permanent loss. Conservation groups warn that under Pearce, safeguards for endangered species could be weakened, commercial livestock grazing could intensify habitat degradation, and energy expansion could push wildlife closer to collapse. We can’t afford that. At a time when biodiversity is in crisis, we need leadership that will protect wildlife—not put it at greater risk. Instead, the Senate is rushing a decision that will shape the future of our public lands and the species that depend on them. Our public lands belong to all of us—not polluters and special interests. They are essential refuges for wildlife and must be protected for future generations. The Senate must reject Steve Pearce. Sign the petition to tell your senators: Vote NO on Steve Pearce for BLM Director. Protect wild horses. Protect sage grouse. Protect the wildlife that depends on our public lands. The petition to the U.S. Senate reads: The Senate must urgently reject Steve Pearce’s nomination to lead the Bureau of Land Management. His record of prioritizing oil and gas development over wildlife protections threatens critical habitat for species like wild horses, sage grouse, and pronghorn across millions of acres of public land. With this vote being fast-tracked, we call on you to act now to protect America’s wildlife and public lands by voting NO. _______ Sources: Las Cruces Sun-News | Steve Pearce’s BLM director nomination fast-tracked by GOP | https://www.lcsun-news.com/story/news/politics/2026/04/30/steve-pearces-blm-director-nomination-fast-tracked-by-gop/89854042007/ Conservation Lands Foundation | Oppose the Nomination of Steve Pearce | https://www.conservationlands.org/oppose-pearce-nomination EnviroVoters | Steve Pearce Is the Wrong Choice for Bureau of Land Management | https://envirovoters.org/steve-pearce-wrong-choice-for-bureau-of-land-management/
