Urge Universities to Lower Costs for Families

The price to get a degree has dramatically increased in recent years. In fact, some universities estimate their total cost of attendance will exceed $90,000 next year.

Tuition and fees at private national universities have increased by about 40% over the last 20 years, adjusted for inflation. When not adjusted for inflation, that’s a jump of about 132%.

This squeeze on students and their families is too tight. Sign the petition to urge universities to lower costs for families.

Higher costs are driving young students to think twice about investing in higher education at all.

“When I’m talking to younger people of Gen Z, it seems like they’re very aware of the price, which might be a little bit of a shift from prior generations,” said Ana Hernandez Kent, a senior researcher with the Institute for Economic Equity at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. “Instead of just a blanket approach and assuming that they need to go to college, they’re much more critical.”
