Urge Target: Stock Pride Merch in All Stores

Last year, Target received backlash from shoppers after stocking their shelves with merchandise for pride month. This year, to avoid backlash, they have announced that they will only stock pride merchandise in select stores — not all stores.

Target said the decision on where to stock pride clothes, beverages, and more would be based on “guest insights and customer research.”

Kelley Robinson, president of Human Rights Campaign said this decision was disappointing and risks alienating LGBTQ+ individuals.

“Pride merchandise means something,” Robinson said. “LGBTQ+ people are in every zip code in this country, and we aren’t going anywhere.”

This move by target sends a message that discrimination against LGBTQ+ people is fine by Target, hurting a big portion of their shopper base.
