Unequivocally Denounce All Political Violence

The murder of Charlie Kirk is a horrific act of violence that must be condemned by all Americans — without hesitation, qualification, or partisan spin.

Democrats, progressives, and leaders across the political spectrum have responded with clarity and conviction. Governor Josh Shapiro called it “unconscionable.” Governor Gretchen Whitmer denounced it as “an attack on our democracy.” Countless other Democratic and progressive voices and civil rights leaders have joined in mourning and demanded that we resist the dangerous tide of political extremism.

But not everyone is choosing unity. Prominent right-wing figures are exploiting this tragedy to escalate threats and stir resentment. Fox News host Jesse Watters said, “We are going to avenge Charlie’s death in the way that Charlie wanted it avenged.” Far-right activist Christopher Rufo called for authorities to “infiltrate, disrupt, arrest, and incarcerate all of those who are responsible for this chaos.” Chaya Raichik, the creator of Libs of TikTok, posted simply: “THIS IS WAR.”

This is not leadership. This is incitement. Please add your name to our petition calling on everyone – regardless of ideology or political affiliation – to join us in unequivocally denouncing all political violence.

Political violence has no place in a democracy. It doesn’t matter who the victim is or what their ideology may be — we must all agree that bloodshed cannot be the answer to disagreement.

We call on all elected officials, community leaders, and media figures — especially those on the right — to publicly and unequivocally denounce political violence and reject any calls for revenge or escalation. This is a moment that demands moral courage.

The future of our democracy depends on our ability to reject hate and affirm our shared humanity — even when we disagree.
