Trump’s Plan to Kill Nonprofits Is Moving Fast

Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans are trying to sneak a terrifying power grab into their latest tax bill—one that could destroy the nonprofit organizations we rely on to fight for justice, equality, and democracy.

Buried inside the tax bill currently being finalized is a dangerous provision already being called the “Nonprofit-Killer Amendment.” It would let the president direct the IRS to revoke the tax-exempt status of any nonprofit—without due process and under the vague excuse of “fighting terrorism.” That means Trump could go after climate groups, reproductive rights advocates, racial justice orgs—any group he sees as a threat.

This is not about taxes. It’s about silencing dissent.
We’ve stopped attacks like this before. Last year, public outrage forced Senate Republicans to drop similar provisions. If we raise our voices now, we can stop this one, too.

But we have to act fast. The House could vote on this bill any day.

Experts are warning us. The National Council of Nonprofits says this move would give “unprecedented authority to the Executive Branch to revoke tax-exempt status from charitable nonprofits without due process or basic protections.” 

Once this power exists, it can be abused—by Trump or any future president. We can’t give politicians a weapon to destroy the groups that fight for us.
