Thank Wisconsin Federal Judges Who Insisted Trump Follow Law

Wisconsin’s federal judges just sent a powerful message: no president is above the law.

After Donald Trump installed former Attorney General Brad Schimel as interim U.S. Attorney in Milwaukee, his administration expected the court to extend Schimel’s tenure beyond the legal time limit. Instead, the judges of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin refused, insisting that the position follow the proper legal process rather than political pressure.

Their decision protects an essential principle: federal prosecutors must be appointed through lawful procedures, not kept in power indefinitely through political maneuvering.

At a time when democratic norms are under pressure, these judges did exactly what the Constitution demands—they upheld the rule of law.
