We express our gratitude to Washington Attorney General Nick Brown for taking a stand against unlawful cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities. His lawsuit against Adams County Sheriff Dale Wagner sends a clear message: Washington state law must be followed, and immigrant communities deserve protection from unlawful targeting. The Keep Washington Working Act, passed with bipartisan support in 2019, was designed to ensure that local law enforcement focuses on public safety—not federal immigration enforcement. By refusing to comply with state law, Adams County has endangered immigrant families, violated residents’ rights, and undermined trust in law enforcement. Attorney General Brown’s leadership is critical at a time when the Trump administration is ramping up mass deportations and attacking sanctuary policies nationwide. We applaud him for defending Washington’s right to govern its own public safety policies and for standing up against those who seek to use law enforcement to target, detain, and harass immigrant communities. We urge continued legal action to protect Washington’s sanctuary policies and call on all elected officials to uphold laws that keep families safe from unjust and discriminatory enforcement tactics. Thank you, Attorney General Brown, for standing for justice and immigrant rights!
