Thank the NAACP and NEA for Defending Public Education

We applaud the NAACP and the National Education Association (NEA) for taking bold legal action to protect America’s public education system from President Trump’s unconstitutional attempt to dismantle the Department of Education.

By joining forces with public school parents and education advocates, the NAACP and NEA are standing up for millions of students, especially those in underserved and historically marginalized communities. Their lawsuit makes clear: no president has the power to dismantle an agency created by Congress simply by executive order.

The Department of Education exists to ensure equal access to education, enforce civil rights protections, and administer essential programs—like student loans, special education, and school nutrition services. Gutting this agency threatens not only these programs, but the very foundation of educational equity in this country.

The NAACP and NEA’s leadership in challenging this reckless and illegal order shows a deep commitment to students, families, and educators nationwide. We are grateful for their continued fight to uphold the rule of law and ensure every child has the opportunity to receive a high-quality public education.
