Thank the Biden Administration for New Methane Emissions Fee

We applaud the Biden administration for launching the first-ever federal methane emissions fee for oil and gas companies, a significant step in combating climate change. By holding the largest industrial source of methane accountable, this rule will help reduce a powerful greenhouse gas with a warming effect far stronger than carbon dioxide.

The new fee, starting at $900 per ton in 2024 and rising to $1,500 by 2026, is expected to push companies toward cleaner, emission-reducing technologies. The EPA estimates this rule will cut methane emissions by 1.2 million metric tons by 2035, creating climate benefits equivalent to removing nearly eight million gas-powered cars from the road for a year.
