Thank States for Standing Up to Trump’s Energy Emergency

On the very first day of his current term in office, Donald Trump issued an executive order declaring a “national energy emergenc” that would allow oil and gas infrastructure to bypass critical environmental review.

This order threatens to dismantle long-standing legal protections under the National Environmental Policy Act, the Endangered Species Act, and other essential safeguards that protect our air, water, wildlife, and communities.

Now, a coalition of the attorneys general of 15 states are boldly and bravely challenging the Trump Administration’s sweeping attempt to fast-track fossil fuel projects by declaring a fabricated national “energy emergency.”

Sign the petition to thank these states for taking action.

The states of Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin jointly filed suit against the administration.

They are suing to stop the Trump Administration’s plans to unjustly expedite energy projects by sidestepping environmental protection laws to speed up oil and gas drilling–exacerbating climate change and continuing our country’s reliance on fossil fuels.

Their lawsuit sends a clear message: environmental protections are not optional, and no president has the authority to override laws meant to protect people and the planet simply to serve the interests of the fossil fuel industry.

This action is a direct assault on public health, environmental justice, and climate progress. By invoking an “emergency” that does not exist, the Trump Administration is seeking to fast-track polluting projects that pose irreversible harmithout adequate oversight or public input.

Sign the petition to applaud the states that stepped up to challenge Trump’s attack for coming together to file suit and demand accountability.
