Thank Senate Democrats for Fighting Trump’s FERC Picks

Donald Trump is trying to stack the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) with radical nominees who could put fossil fuel interests ahead of our climate future. Thankfully, Democrats on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee just stood firm and opposed these dangerous picks.

We need to show our gratitude—and remind them that climate-conscious leadership matters.

FERC might not always make headlines, but it has enormous influence over America’s energy future. From deciding whether clean energy projects can connect to the grid, to overseeing natural gas pipelines, to ensuring our power system can handle climate disasters—FERC plays a critical role in whether we move toward a clean energy future or stay locked into fossil fuels.

Approving unqualified, politically motivated nominees threatens all of that. With climate change accelerating and communities facing intensifying disasters, we cannot afford commissioners who will side with polluters instead of protecting people and the planet.

That’s why the opposition from Senate Democrats matters so much. Even if these nominations move forward, their “no” votes send a powerful signal: America deserves regulators who will put science, public health, and our future first.

As Sen. Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., the committee’s ranking member, said in explaining his No vote, “(T)hese are not normal times. This administration is issuing illegal stop work orders on fully permitted projects. They are creating a grid crisis. They are killing good union jobs, and they are raising electricity prices.”

Add your name to thank Senate Democrats for defending FERC and standing up against Trump’s fossil fuel cronies.
