Despite its name, the Fix Our Forests Act threatens America’s forests with unchecked logging. Disguised as forest management meant to mitigate wildfires, this bill would actually roll back environmental protections, limit the rights of citizens to hold federal agencies accountable and restrict scientific review over logging projects. Not only can inappropriate logging destroy habitats and ecosystems, but it can also increase the risk of wildfires by increasing direct sunlight to the forest floor, accelerating wind speeds and leaving behind combustible dead surface vegetation that fuels flames. Catastrophic wildfires are a very real threat and science-based forest management is critical in preventing them and keeping communities safe. But the Fix Our Forests Act would instead open the floodgates for unwarranted logging and roll back protections for endangered species. Please vote against the Fix Our Forests Act.
