One year ago, fifty-three lives were needlessly lost in a horrific, preventable tragedy as a result of a cruel immigration system that has wholly dehumanized and criminalized those who pursue the human and legal right to seek asylum within our borders. We are still mourning. We are still angry. This tragic loss of life should never have happened. We must not forget those who perished. We must instead channel our anger and pain to demand urgent federal action to restore our asylum process and create a more compassionate immigration system. Tell The White House: Take urgent action to guarantee a compassionate and just immigration system.
