During his State of the Union address, President Trump once again pushed false claims of widespread voter fraud and urged Congress to pass the SAVE America Act — a sweeping voter suppression bill that would make it significantly harder for millions of eligible Americans to vote. The House has already passed this legislation. Now the Senate must decide whether to protect our freedom to vote or put new barriers between voters and the ballot box. We call on the United States Senate — including Majority Leader John Thune and every Senator who claims to defend democracy — to reject the SAVE America Act immediately. This bill would require Americans to present documentary proof of citizenship, such as a passport or birth certificate, in order to register to vote. More than 21 million eligible Americans do not have easy access to those documents. Millions more would face unnecessary obstacles, including married women whose current legal names may not match their birth certificates. Noncitizen voting in federal elections is already illegal and exceedingly rare. This bill does not solve a real problem — it creates one. This moment demands action. Senators are hearing from party leaders and lobbyists right now. They also need to hear from us. Public pressure can stop this bill. When constituents speak out in large numbers, lawmakers pay attention. When voters shine a spotlight on harmful legislation, it becomes politically harder to support it. The Senate vote is approaching. There is still time to stop this attack on our fundamental rights — but only if we act. Tell the Senate: Vote no on the SAVE America Act. Protect the freedom to vote. Stand on the side of democracy.
