Tell the Senate: Strengthen the Farm Bill for All Animals

There is real reason to celebrate: senators have finally removed the dangerous Save Our Bacon Act, an anti-democratic attempt to override state laws that protect animals from some of the worst factory farm abuses, from the Senate Farm Bill discussion draft.

That is a major win for animals, voters, and states’ rights. The Save Our Bacon Act would threaten hard-won protections like California’s Proposition 12 — a voter-approved animal welfare law the U.S. Supreme Court upheld against a factory farm industry challenge — as well as other state measures to reduce extreme confinement. Congress should respect these laws and the voters behind them, not erase them for the benefit of factory farm corporations.

But this fight is not over.

The Senate now has a chance to build a stronger Farm Bill that protects animals, respects voters, and rejects cruelty wherever it appears in our food and agriculture systems.

That should include the FIGHT Act, a bipartisan bill that would strengthen federal action against dogfighting and cockfighting. Animal fighting is vicious cruelty, and these operations are often linked to gambling, drugs, illegal weapons, and other crimes. Congress should give federal officials and law enforcement stronger tools to stop these criminal networks.

The Senate should also stop the slaughter pipeline for American horses, reject taxpayer support for mink fur exports, and address outdated forms of exploitation like commercial greyhound racing.

The Farm Bill should help farmers, families, animals, and communities — not reward industries built on confinement, blood sports, slaughter, and suffering.

Animals deserve better, and the American people are demanding it. Please sign the petition to tell senators to protect animals in the Farm Bill.
