Tell the Park Service: Let Pride Flag Fly at Stonewall

They’re trying to erase Pride from the birthplace of Pride.

The National Park Service removed the rainbow flag from the Stonewall National Monument following pressure from the Trump administration, according to multiple news reports.

Stonewall belongs to the people who fought there — and to every LGBTQ+ person who draws strength from that legacy. If there’s one place the Pride flag should fly free, it’s there, and the National Park Service must respect that.

Tell Acting National Park Service Director Jessica Bowron: “Restore the Pride flag at Stonewall National Monument and protect LGBTQ+ history from political interference.”

Stonewall is sacred ground. In 1969, LGBTQ+ people — led by Black and Brown trans women — fought back against police brutality and ignited a global movement for equality. The Pride flag flying there isn’t political decoration. It’s historical truth. It tells visitors exactly what happened there — and who made history.

Now, as anti-LGBTQ+ attacks escalate across the country, stripping that flag from the monument sends a chilling message: that queer history is negotiable and LGBTQ+ dignity is expendable. We refuse to let that stand.

Add your name to demand the National Park Service respect LGBTQ+ history and freedom. The flag must be allowed to fly.

The petition to Acting National Park Service Director Jessica Bowron reads: “Restore the Pride flag at Stonewall National Monument and protect LGBTQ+ history from political interference.”
