Tell the Media: Don’t Amplify DOJ Smear Campaigns

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has quietly launched a so-called “Weaponization Working Group” led by a far-right activist with ties to conspiracy theorists. Instead of upholding justice, the group’s goal appears to be publicly targeting individuals they oppose politically.

This effort isn’t about accountability — it’s about intimidation. By selectively releasing names of federal employees and others, this strategy endangers careers, invites doxxing and harassment, and turns federal law enforcement into a political weapon.

The media must not legitimize or amplify this dangerous strategy. By echoing these narratives without scrutiny, news outlets risk becoming tools in a campaign of political intimidation. Journalists and editors have a duty to hold the DOJ accountable, not help spread smear campaigns disguised as oversight.

We must stand against this abuse of power. Demand that the DOJ shut down this working group and reaffirm its commitment to equal justice — and call on the media to expose, not enable, these tactics.
