Tell State Leaders: Protect Access to Abortion Pills

The next phase of the Republican abortion ban agenda is already here — and it’s aimed squarely at abortion pills.

Republican lawmakers across the country are escalating their attack on reproductive freedom by targeting abortion pills — the most common form of abortion care in the United States. New state bills, lawsuits, and court challenges are moving fast to block access to mifepristone and misoprostol, even in states where nearly all abortions are already banned.

But governors, attorneys general, and legislators can act now to block enforcement of extremist bans, refuse to cooperate with out-of-state prosecutions, and protect patients and providers. It’s time for them to defend reproductive freedom, before lives are put at risk.

The goal is clear: impose a nationwide abortion ban through the back door by cutting off medication access everywhere.

Abortion pills are safe, effective, and backed by overwhelming medical evidence. For millions of people — especially those in rural areas, low-income communities, abusive situations, or states with no clinics — they are the only realistic option for care. Blocking these medications doesn’t stop abortions. It forces people into danger, fear, and legal risk.

It’s time for state leaders to keep abortion safe and legal, and it’s critical that we push back against these bans just as hard as anti-freedom extremists. When state leaders feel heat, they move, and it’s time to raise the temperature.
