July's jobs numbers were weaker than Trump hoped or promised, so he took immediate action: firing the person who counts them. That's right. He's getting rid of the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics – a longtime civil servant confirmed 86-8 by the Senate – to replace her with someone who will cook the books to his liking. This sort of reckless, politically motivated firing is par for the course with Trump – but this one reveals his whole approach to governing better than any in recent memory. When we have data that shows a problem in our country, a real leader would take action to solve it. To Trump, the only problem is that the facts make him look bad, and his only response is to try and silence the data gatherers. This is outrageous – and we must speak out now to make sure Trump can’t sweep this one under the rug.
