Haitians are already facing a cholera outbreak, mass power outages, and extreme violence. Now, their unelected government has called for military intervention — and found support in the UN.

Centuries of disastrous international military interventions in Haiti have undermined state institutions, democratic norms, and the rule of law. Each has carried a costly human toll on the Haitian people including rape, sexual exploitation, and extra-judicial killings.
