Tell Mitch McConnell: Disclose Health Details or Resign

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear just sent Mitch McConnell a blunt public demand: Directly address the people of Kentucky and provide proof that he can still serve in the U.S. Senate — or resign.

That letter is necessary because McConnell has been absent from public view for more than six weeks. He has been hospitalized and in rehabilitation since a fall in June, and his office says he is still undergoing physical therapy and has not been medically cleared to leave rehab or return to his full Senate schedule.

Meanwhile, McConnell has missed dozens of Senate votes, skipped public events, and offered only limited updates through staff. Kentuckians still do not have clear answers about whether their senior senator can speak, reason, vote, serve constituents, and carry out the duties of office.

Tell Senator Mitch McConnell: Directly address the people of Kentucky, provide a clear and credible update on your ability to serve, or resign.

Every person deserves dignity and privacy when facing health challenges. But a United States senator is not a private citizen. McConnell holds one of only two Senate seats representing Kentucky, and the people he represents deserve more than silence, carefully managed photos, and statements from staff.

The timing matters. Kentucky’s process for filling a Senate vacancy could become more legally and practically uncertain after August 3. If McConnell cannot serve, waiting in silence could make it harder for Kentuckians to get full representation when they need it.

Kentuckians deserve two active senators fighting for them — not uncertainty, silence, and unanswered questions during critical votes and national decisions.

If McConnell is capable of serving, he should prove it by speaking directly to the people he represents and providing a meaningful update. If he cannot do that, he should step aside now.

Add your name and demand Senator Mitch McConnell be honest with Kentuckians before the August 3 deadline: disclose enough health information to prove he can serve, or resign.

The petition to Senator Mitch McConnell reads:

"Directly address the people of Kentucky and provide a clear, credible update on your ability to serve as their United States senator before the August 3 deadline. If you cannot speak, reason, vote, perform Senate duties, and represent your constituents, resign so Kentucky can have full representation."
