Tell Meta: Stop Silencing Activists!

On Oct. 17, Meta shut down the No Kings coalition’s Instagram account during a nationwide day of action, locking organizers out for several hours. Meta is now claiming its automated systems made a mistake.

This is part of a pattern for Meta. Last fall, Meta caved to the Justice Department and removed the account for a Chicago Facebook group with tens of thousands of members that tracked ICE sightings.[1] Reproductive-rights advocates have also reported Meta taking down their accounts without warning.[2]

Sometimes the company obeys to the administration in advance. Last year, before Trump took office, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg promised to change the platform’s political-content policies to please the incoming president. That same day, Trump said his threats against the company “probably” pushed it to make those changes.[3] Meanwhile, organizers keep losing their ability to connect with supporters.

Add your name to tell Meta to stop capitulating to the Trump administration, and to explain exactly what happened with No Kings.

*To Mark Zuckerberg and Meta:*
Your automated systems shut down the No Kings coalition’s Instagram account during a nationwide day of action, locking organizers out for several hours.

This is part of a pattern. When the Justice Department asked you to review a Chicago Facebook group tracking ICE sightings, you shut down the account. Even before Trump took office last year, you rewrote your rules to bring Meta into alignment with the White House agenda. Your users need you to stand up to government pressure and stop caving to this administration’s demands.

Meta — you can’t hide behind AI. We’re calling on you to stop capitulating to the Trump administration and stand up for your users instead.
