Donald Trump is now suggesting American cities are expendable. Republican leaders must condemn his reckless remarks—and help end the war behind them. At an October 5 rally, Trump defended his Iran war and its economic costs. Then he said: “They can take out a city. Let ’em take out Los Angeles, let ’em take out San Diego.” The crowd applauded. Millions of Americans call those cities home. They are children, parents, workers, veterans, and military families. Their lives are not a punchline. Their communities are not expendable. And no president should talk about their destruction as casually as Trump just did. Sign the petition: Tell Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune to condemn Trump’s remarks and work to end the Iran war. The White House says Trump meant the war is preventing an Iranian attack. But even that defense acknowledges the danger he is invoking: American communities could face catastrophic harm. His own words should demand an urgent reckoning with the risks of this conflict. Instead, Americans get reckless rhetoric and assurances that the war will soon be over. Families already paying more at the gas pump deserve answers. Troops and their families deserve a path out of the conflict. And the people Trump named deserve an unequivocal commitment to their protection. House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune lead the Republican majorities in Congress and influence which legislation gets a vote. They have a responsibility to reject the president's remarks and bring forward measures ending U.S. participation in the war. Condemning the remarks is the first step. Working to end the war must come next. Protecting Americans requires more than defending whatever Trump says. Add your name: Demand that Johnson and Thune put American lives before loyalty to Trump. The petition to House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune reads: “Publicly condemn Trump’s remarks about letting Iran ‘take out’ Los Angeles and San Diego. Bring legislation to a vote to end U.S. participation in the Iran war, and press the administration to pursue a diplomatic resolution. No American community is expendable.”
