ICE has weaponized routine check-ins to detain and deport children across the country. Imagine a teenage graduate, diploma in hand, torn away from home instead of tossing caps into the air. In New Orleans, three U.S. citizen children aged two, four, and seven were seized and sent to a country they barely know, one child with cancer stripped of life-saving medication. In Massachusetts, 18-year-old Marcelo Gomes da Silva was stopped en route to volleyball practice, holding students hostage to fear until a judge granted his release. In Ohio, Emerson Colindres walked across the stage to celebrate graduation, only to be jailed days later during a routine appointment, leaving classmates stunned and isolated. In Southern California, a boy was detained just outside his school walls following a carpool check-in. In Los Angeles, graduation ceremonies this week have been overshadowed by ICE raids, forcing families to skip the celebrations they fought so hard to plan. These actions betray the promise of due process, turning milestones into nightmares. ICE’s reported ambition to deport children at the speed of “Amazon Prime” shows a chilling disregard for justice and humanity. And it’s time to stop it. Tell Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons: “Don’t deport kids. Stop the cruelty. Suspend deportations of minors and stop the fear gripping schools and communities.” A clear directive from ICE’s acting director this week can halt raids, safeguard families, and restore faith in our immigration system. Graduation season is underway and every moment counts. Sign now to tell Mr. Lyons: Stop deporting our children. Justice for every family requires your swift intervention.
