Tell Fox News: Stand With Journalists, Not Against Them

When CBS’s Scott Pelley called out Donald Trump’s escalating attacks on the press as “a war on the truth”, he was doing what journalists are supposed to do: speaking truth to power. But instead of supporting a fellow member of the press, Fox News launched a smear campaign against him in an attempt to undermine his credibility — with one contributor even calling for his arrest.

This kind of response is dangerous. At a time when journalists face mounting hostility, threats, and misinformation, media organizations should be united in defending the role of a free press. By targeting Pelley for accurately describing Trump’s anti-media rhetoric, Fox News is siding with those who want to weaken public trust in journalism itself.

We demand that Fox News stop attacking fellow journalists and instead stand up for press freedom. Media outlets have a responsibility to protect the truth — not punish those who speak it.
