Oil giant Exxon Mobil just filed a lawsuit to stop American and Dutch climate activists from submitting proposals related to climate change at the company's annual shareholder meeting. The company claimed the activists are motivated by an "extreme agenda." “With this remarkable step, ExxonMobil clearly wants to prevent shareholders using their rights,” said climate activist Mark van Baal of Follow This. "Apparently, the board fears shareholders will vote in favour of emissions reductions targets." Over the decades, Exxon has played a leading role in lying to the public about climate change. It's long past time for the company to take responsibility for its role in the climate crisis and stop fighting proposals to address it.
