Tell Elon: Stop Attacking Social Security

Elon Musk is using his enormous platform to attack Social Security — and it's putting lives at risk.

Senator Bernie Sanders recently warned that "67,000 people will die waiting for benefits" if cuts promoted by Musk's lies are enacted. These are seniors, disabled workers, and vulnerable Americans who rely on Social Security to survive. They cannot afford to wait months or even years for the benefits they earned through a lifetime of work.

But Musk continues to spout lies, even though the Social Security Administration itself has debunked his false claims. His posts have gone viral, fueling a wave of disinformation and giving Republican lawmakers cover to push for deeper cuts to the program. And Elon Musk and President Trump appear to be coordinating behind the scenes.

Musk has even hinted at using SpaceX and Tesla lobbying power to pressure Congress into fast-tracking so-called "efficiency reforms" that would gut processing staff, delay benefit approvals, and strip key protections from the program. These proposals would disproportionately harm people with disabilities, rural seniors, and low-income families.

Elon Musk is not an elected official, but his influence is real — and dangerous. If we let his disinformation campaign go unchallenged, we risk losing the most successful anti-poverty program in American history.

Protests have already erupted across the country, but we have to continue building momentum to stop Musk and Trump's attacks. As former Social Security Administrator Martin O'Malley told Congress last month, "They’re trying to wreck this agency, and the people of the United States who are in this benefit need to stand up right now. I truly believe only an aroused democracy can stop them."
