Tell Dr. Oz: Restore Care for the 760,000 People You Cut Off

Donald Trump has been gunning for the Affordable Care Act for years. He pushed to repeal it in 2017. His administration asked the Supreme Court to strike it down in 2020. Both efforts failed. Now his administration is kicking people off their coverage by the hundreds of thousands.

On August 31, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) canceled roughly 315,000 Marketplace enrollments covering more than 760,000 people. CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz calls it a fraud crackdown. Protect Our Care calls it "a political stunt designed to throw even more people off their coverage."

Marketplace enrollment already fell by roughly 3 million people this year after Trump and congressional Republicans let enhanced subsidies expire and premiums soared. The latest stunt makes the problem worse.

It's time to demand the attacks on our healthcare end now.

Sign now: Tell Dr. Oz to stop attacking patient care and restore coverage for the hundreds of thousands who just lost it.

CMS says it confirmed every one of these enrollments was unauthorized, but it hasn't publicly shown how it reached that conclusion case by case. Reporting indicates some people may have been flagged just because a broker left a Social Security number off the paperwork. And HealthCare.gov's appeals page says you generally can't even appeal the date your coverage ended.

For a patient, losing coverage isn't a clerical error. It can mean a missed chemo appointment, insulin at full price, or a surprise bill for prenatal care.

The goal should be simple: every American who needs health care can get affordable, high-quality coverage. Instead, this administration is undermining the ACA with sweeping fraud claims it hasn't backed up publicly.

Dr. Oz must change course now. CMS pulled the plug, and CMS can restore it. The agency already resolves complaints about unwanted enrollments in about five days. It can move that fast for patients who had their care revoked and then do the careful, individual review it should have done in the first place.

Add your name: Tell Dr. Oz to put patients first and make sure everyone who needs care can get it.

The petition to CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz reads:

"Stop attacking Americans' health care. Immediately restore coverage and subsidies, with no gap, for everyone CMS cut from the Marketplace on August 31, and let anyone enrolled without their consent opt out. Review each case one by one, with direct notice and a fair chance to respond, and cancel an enrollment only if CMS documents that it was made without the person's consent. And work to ensure every American receives the affordable care they deserve."
