Tell Corporations: Don't Back Away from Climate Commitments

With Donald Trump returning to the White House, federal action on climate change is at serious risk. 

But regardless of what the federal government does, corporations can—and must—continue their commitment to reducing emissions and fighting climate change. 

Major companies, including Amazon, Microsoft, and Walmart, have previously pledged to cut greenhouse gas emissions and work toward sustainability. Now is the time for them to stand by those commitments.

Amazon, for instance, pledged to reach net-zero carbon by 2040, with CEO Jeff Bezos promising to “meet the Paris Agreement 10 years early.” Microsoft committed to being carbon negative by 2030, and Walmart set goals to achieve zero emissions across global operations by 2040. These are powerful goals that can make a real difference—but only if corporations hold the line.

The fight against climate change is too urgent to depend solely on government action. Corporations play a critical role, and their leadership is needed now more than ever. Backing away from climate commitments in response to shifting federal policies would not only harm the environment but would also erode public trust in corporate responsibility.
