Tell Congress & Trump’s USFWS: Hands Off Grizzly Protections

Grizzly bears are a symbol of the wild — intelligent, powerful, and essential to the balance of mountain ecosystems in the American West. But right now, their future is under renewed attack from politicians pushing to strip away federal Endangered Species Act (ESA) protections — not only through Congress, but also through the executive branch.

We cannot let these bears be pushed to the edge of extinction again. Sign the petition opposing attempts to strip these bears of the ESA protections that have allowed them to begin to recover.

In 2017, the Trump Administration tried to remove grizzly bears in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem from the endangered species list. Federal courts rightly struck down that move for ignoring science and the ongoing threats to grizzly survival. Yet, efforts to bypass the law continue.

Now, Congress is considering multiple bills that would force the delisting of grizzly bears in both the Yellowstone and Northern Continental Divide regions. They are even attempting to prevent judicial review–meaning that the courts could not intervene.

With states like Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho becoming much more aggressive towards large carnivores in recent years, this is not the time to reduce federal protections for grizzly bears.

These states continue to show their preference for killing over conservation through their treatment of gray wolves–trusting them with grizzly bears would be a grave mistake.

Without ESA safeguards, grizzlies could be subjected to state-sponsored trophy hunts and further habitat fragmentation. Decades of conservation progress could unravel overnight.

Grizzly bears have one of the slowest reproductive rates among terrestrial mammals. Entrusting their future to state agencies could doom them to population loss that could take decades to reverse.

Grizzly populations remain isolated and face continued threats from habitat loss, food scarcity, and human conflict. Tribal Nations, scientists, and conservationists agree: it’s too soon to take away critical protections.

Please sign the petition to call on Congress and the Trump Administration to maintain Endangered Species Act protections for grizzly bears. Their future must be guided by science, not politics.
