The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently announced a new rule that ends the practice of automatically extending Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) for certain noncitizens who are lawfully in the U.S. This rule will leave thousands of people in danger of losing their work authorization until their application with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is approved. This new rule only serves to hinder working individuals from supporting themselves and their families, ultimately harming our economy and compounding stress on communities nationwide. Those affected by this procedural change include people with pending asylum cases, beneficiaries of Temporary Protected Status (TPS), spouses of H-1B or L-1 visa holders, and anyone with pending applications before USCIS. Tell Congress to reverse course on this new rule and pass legislation that protects families from losing their right to work.
