The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) is a landmark law that ensures federal agencies review the environmental impacts of major projects before moving them forward. It gives communities a voice, promotes transparency–and helps protect our air, water, and public lands. But NEPA is under serious threat. Recent laws and proposed changes in the reconciliation package aim to weaken environmental reviews, limit public input, and fast-track development without proper oversight. The latest proposals from the House Committee on Natural Resources would allow developers to bypass court review and drastically shorten review timelines—putting communities and ecosystems at risk. On top of the latest proposals, the Trump Administration and its allies in Congress are pushing for radical rollbacks that would dismantle core NEPA protections, strip away federal oversight, and let agencies rubber-stamp harmful projects. Their plan would replace NEPA’s consistent safeguards with a patchwork of weakened rules and rushed approvals. Congress has the power to stop this. Lawmakers must reject these rollbacks and strengthen NEPA’s role in protecting our environment and public health. Add your name to demand Congress take action to protect NEPA regulations.
