Tell Congress: Protect Mifepristone Now

Sen. Josh Hawley has introduced the Safeguarding Women from Chemical Abortion Act — a bill that would strip FDA approval from mifepristone, ban its use for ending pregnancies, and make its distribution a federal crime. Congress must reject this attack on evidence-based medical care and the millions of people who depend on it.

Mifepristone now accounts for 63 percent of all abortions in the U.S. It has been FDA-approved for over 25 years, studied extensively, and consistently found to be safe and effective. Medical professionals, including Planned Parenthood's chief medical officer, have stated that the data Hawley is citing "is not backed up by rigorous scientific data" — and the FDA itself puts the serious adverse event rate at 0.5%, far lower than what Hawley claims.

We call on Congress to reject the Safeguarding Women from Chemical Abortion Act: vote down any legislation that strips FDA approval from mifepristone, reaffirm that drug approvals must be based on science rather than ideology, and protect the right of patients and physicians to make evidence-based healthcare decisions free from federal criminalization.
