Last year, dozens of members of Congress violated the STOCK Act. Our current rules are not enough to prevent conflicts of interest caused by members of Congress owning and trading stocks while in office. Congress must act to pass a strong, comprehensive ban on Congressional stock ownership, including spouses, with clear enforcement mechanisms and no loopholes related to blind trusts. This is a critical problem that must be fixed and Congress must not delay any longer. Congress has the opportunity to restore public trust in Congress by passing a comprehensive ban—they must act, and they must act before the end of the year.
