Tell Congress: Let Our States Tax Billionaires

Republicans in Congress want to take away your ability to make billionaires pay their fair share.

California is on the verge of passing a wealth tax that terrifies Republicans and their billionaire backers. So Representative Kevin Kiley has introduced federal legislation to undermine it. The plan would prevent California from taxing ultra-wealthy residents who try to dodge their responsibility by fleeing the state. 

It’s a direct attempt to override state authority, all to shield the richest Americans. The same politicians who preach “states’ rights” are rushing to crush a state’s right to tax extreme wealth, and we need to show them we’re ready to hold them accountable.

Tell Congress: “Reject Rep. Kevin Kiley’s plot to protect extreme wealth. Defend every state’s right to tax billionaires and invest in their communities.”

Lawmakers in California and other states are working to address staggering inequality and invest in schools, healthcare, housing, and climate resilience. But instead of letting voters and state leaders decide, Republicans want Washington to step in and shut it down.

We can’t let Congress block our states from passing bold tax reforms just because billionaires loudly complain and buy politicians.
