Toxic “forever chemicals” are at risk of poisoning our food—and Republicans in Congress want to make it worse. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) never break down. They’ve been linked to cancer, infertility, immune damage, and more. Yet they’re being dumped on crops that end up in our kitchens—and instead of cracking down, Trump and his allies are gutting research and blocking solutions. Right now, they’re trying to ban the EPA from restricting the use of PFAS-contaminated sludge as fertilizer on American farms. This reckless move threatens our health. Congress must not only act to let the EPA do its job, but must also pass legislation to keep PFAS out of our food supply now. Tell Congress: “Keep forever chemicals out of our food supply. Let the EPA finish the work of finalizing rules on PFAS and sludge in agriculture and take action to keep these chemicals out of our food for good.” In an appropriations bill due by September 30, House Republicans are pushing a provision that would silence the EPA on this issue completely. That’s dangerously bad policy. It hands more power to polluters and strips communities of vital protections. This isn’t complicated. Our food should be safe. Our government should protect us. And Congress should reject any budget that stops the EPA from doing its job. Better yet, lawmakers should pass real, lasting laws to keep PFAS out of agriculture for good. We can’t wait. Every growing season counts. Every meal matters. Tell Congress to stop protecting polluters and start protecting people. Remove PFAS from our food now, and let the EPA do its job. The petition to Congress reads: “Keep forever chemicals out of our food supply. Let the EPA finish the work of finalizing rules on PFAS and sludge in agriculture and take action to keep these chemicals out of our food for good.”
