On January 7, 2026, ICE agents killed Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three with no criminal record, on the streets of Minneapolis. She had just dropped her child at school. Video shows ICE agents immediately escalating with shouting and expletives instead of de-escalation. When Good tried to drive away, an agent who was not in danger opened fire and killed her. This was the ninth ICE shooting since September. The Supreme Court has ruled that deadly force cannot be used simply to stop someone from fleeing. ICE's own policies require de-escalation and respect for human life. These standards were violated. The Trump administration has blamed victims and spread disinformation instead of ensuring accountability. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem falsely called Good a "domestic terrorist" without evidence. Congress must conduct a full investigation into Renee Nicole Good's killing and all ICE shootings since September. Congress must require ICE to follow its de-escalation policies and constitutional standards for use of force. Congress must hold hearings on the use of deadly force in immigration enforcement and ensure accountability for agents who violate use-of-force guidelines. Federal agents must be held to the highest standards when exercising the power of life and death. No family should lose a loved one to unjustified government violence.
