Tell Congress: Don’t Let Trump Weaponize Loan Forgiveness

Donald Trump just turned student debt relief into a political weapon. 

His new Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) rule punishes teachers, nurses, and nonprofit workers who work for employers that challenge him—while protecting organizations that back his agenda.

Trump’s Education Department is yanking forgiveness from millions who served their communities for years. Politically connected employers still qualify, while public-school teachers and nonprofit staff may be cut out. It’s an ideological loyalty test disguised as policy.

Tell Congress: “Stop Trump from weaponizing student loan forgiveness. Protect the teachers, nurses, nonprofit staff, and public servants who keep America running.”

States are already suing to stop Trump’s attack on public service. Arizona’s attorney general called it “a weaponization of debt relief to reward loyalty and punish dissent.” But while lawsuits work their way through the courts, no public program will be safe from political payback.

Congress can stop it—if they act now. Lawmakers must block Trump’s rule, restore PSLF protections, and hold his Education Department accountable before the damage is locked in.

These workers paid their loans and served their country. They shouldn’t lose forgiveness because they chose service over politics.
