Tell Congress: Don't Let Trump's Cuts Close Delivery Rooms

52 maternity wards have closed across America since July 2025. Eight more are slated to close. And Trump's massive Medicaid cuts threaten to make a bad crisis even worse.

Trump's Medicaid cuts haven't even taken full effect, and hospitals are already shutting down maternity wards. Hospitals in Virginia and Georgia have cited upcoming Medicaid changes as reasons for ending maternity services. Not every closure is directly tied to the cuts, but with more changes approaching in 2027 and 2028, even more communities could lose their delivery rooms.

Once a maternity ward closes, reopening it isn't as simple as restoring a line in the budget. That's why Congress must act now.

Hospitals can't afford to wait until funding disappears to make decisions about their future. Some are already closing maternity services because of anticipated Medicaid changes.

The March of Dimes reports that more than half of U.S. counties lack a hospital with labor and delivery services. And the organization has already identified 131 more rural hospitals with maternity services at risk of closure.

Imagine going into labor knowing the nearest delivery room is hours away. Imagine your baby needing emergency care—and having nowhere nearby to turn.

Mothers and babies shouldn't bear the consequences of Trump's agenda. And no family should have to gamble with their lives just to bring a child into the world.

Congress can't wait until the cuts take full effect. By then, more maternity wards could already be gone.
