Tell Congress: Demand Independent Midterm Election Monitors

For the first time in more than 20 years, the Trump administration has decided not to invite international election monitors to observe this year’s midterm elections.

For decades, observers from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe have monitored U.S. elections to help assess transparency, voter access, public confidence, and whether elections meet basic democratic standards.

Now Trump is shutting down that oversight.

With public trust in elections already faltering, we cannot afford to remove one of the basic safeguards that helps show voters the process is fair, transparent, and free from intimidation.

Tell Congress to demand that Trump invite independent international election monitors to observe the November midterms.

When governments shut out independent observers, it raises obvious questions about what they are trying to hide. The United States should not follow the example of authoritarian governments like Russia and Belarus that reject election monitoring and avoid outside scrutiny.

Congress must act now. Lawmakers should demand answers from the State Department and insist that independent monitors be invited before voters cast their ballots.

The petition to Congress reads: "Demand that the Trump administration invite independent international election monitors to observe the 2026 midterm elections. Protect transparency, voter confidence, and the public’s right to know that our elections are free, fair, and open to scrutiny."
