After immigration officers killed two peaceful protesters, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem falsely called them “domestic terrorists.” Renee Good and Alex Pretti — were killed by federal immigration enforcement officers during Operation Metro Surge in Minneapolis. Noem immediately smeared them, even though the heads of both ICE and CBP have confirmed her claims were never supported by information they provided her. Even when challenged before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Noem refused to retract the false claims. Nearly 3,000 federal agents were deployed to Minnesota under the surge. Despite promises of a drawdown, approximately 650 remain — more than four times the pre-surge level. The Trump administration's "border czar" has publicly cited daily arrest quotas of 3,000, directly contradicting Noem's testimony. We call on Congress to demand a full independent investigation into these deaths, require Noem to publicly retract her false characterizations, and hold DHS accountable for enforcement directives and the broken promise to restore Minnesota's pre-surge footprint. No American should be killed by their own government and then smeared in death. Congress must act.
