Tell Congress: Crack Down on Trump’s No-Bid Corruption

Donald Trump’s administration managed to turn the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool into a green, peeling, taxpayer-funded punchline.

They rushed through no-bid contracts to repaint one of America’s most iconic public spaces “American flag blue” — because apparently the Reflecting Pool needed to look like a Trump hotel swimming pool. And after all that, the whole thing started turning green, flaking apart, and embarrassing everyone involved.

It would be hilarious if we were not footing the $16 million bill. Now, it’s time to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Tell Congress: Subpoena the records, investigate the contractors, and crack down on Trump’s no-bid contracting corruption now.

One contract for the reflecting pool went to a company getting an unusually high profit margin despite this being its first federal contract. Another $1.7 million no-bid contract went to Greenwater Services (yes, “Greenwater”), owned by a trust led by John J. Cafaro — a Trump donor who previously pleaded guilty in separate bribery and campaign finance cases.

This is what Trump’s “government efficiency” looks like: hand public money to connected contractors, skip competitive bidding, slap blue paint on a national monument, watch the price tag balloon by millions, and then watch it turn swamp green in front of tourists.

But this may not even be the worst corruption in Trump’s government. It's just the corruption we can see.

Most shady contracts do not peel in front of the Lincoln Memorial. Most sweetheart deals do not turn green on camera. They disappear into agency paperwork, emergency procurement excuses, and invoices the public never gets to inspect.

If this is what happens when everyone is watching, how much worse does it get when no one is?

Add your name now and demand Congress investigate this absurd scandal and close the contracting loopholes that let corruption hide in plain sight.

The petition to Congress reads:

“Investigate the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool no-bid contracts, expose any political favoritism or corruption, and pass strict limits on no-bid federal contracting so taxpayer money cannot be steered to insiders without competition, disclosure, and independent oversight.”
