Tell Congress: Condemn Threats Against Greenland

The Trump administration is threatening to take control of Greenland, a self-governing territory of Denmark, our NATO ally. Stephen Miller questioned Denmark's sovereignty and claimed "nobody is going to fight the United States militarily."

Greenlanders oppose this. Minister Naaja H Nathanielsen says her people are "anxious and afraid" and insists Greenlanders have the right to decide their own future. They have no interest in becoming Americans.

This violates international law. Territorial conquest is illegal. The principle of self-determination means sovereign nations determine their own political status. Threatening to take territory by force violates the fundamental principles the US has championed for decades.

This threatens NATO. Denmark's prime minister warns a US attack would end the alliance. Leaders from France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, and the UK have united with Denmark to defend Greenland's sovereignty.

Congress must condemn threats against Greenland, reaffirm US commitment to international law, defend our NATO alliance with Denmark, and oppose any funding for military or coercive action against Greenland.

American foreign policy should respect sovereignty and international law, not threaten our allies.
