Tell Congress: Ban Assault Weapons Now

On Saturday, Donald Trump was shot in the ear in an apparent assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. At least one attendee was killed and two were critically-wounded.

In light of this news, it is important for all Americans to come together to unequivocally denounce political violence in all forms.

At the same time, we must also recognize that America’s gun violence epidemic is made possible by our lax gun control laws.

Authorities believe the shooter used an AR-15 assault rifle – the weapon of choice for countless mass shooters in recent years.

Assault weapons like the AR-15 were banned in the United States from 1994 until 2004. In 2004, Congress allowed it to expire. Ever since then, Democrats in the White House and Congress have tried repeatedly to reinstate the ban.

In 2021, following a series of mass shootings, Pres. Biden pointedly called on Congress to pass an assault weapons ban and close background check loopholes. “This is not and should not be a partisan issue — it is an American issue,” Biden said. “We have to act.”

We agree. Add your name to the petition urging Congress to reinstate the federal ban on assault weapons.
