Donald Trump has once again demanded that federal regulators punish NBC and other networks for their coverage of him — this time calling for their licenses to be revoked. He’s already pressured his allies at the FCC to launch “reviews” of ABC and NBC, and one commissioner, Brendan Carr, has even warned broadcasters that compliance could happen “the easy way or the hard way.” These aren’t idle threats. The Daily Beast and Deadline report that Trump’s inner circle is pushing to weaponize the FCC against critical media voices, with NBC and Comcast squarely in the crosshairs. FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez has publicly warned that this campaign represents “a clear effort to intimidate broadcasters into silence.” Comcast owns NBC. That means its CEO, Brian Roberts, has a moral and civic responsibility to defend journalists, viewers, and our democracy from political interference. When corporations cave to censorship, democracy weakens. When they stand up to it, the public rallies behind them. That’s why public pressure matters. Comcast’s leadership has the power to change the narrative: a strong, public statement rejecting political meddling and affirming NBC’s editorial independence would send a shockwave through Washington and the media world alike. It would protect journalists on the frontlines, reassure millions of Americans who rely on NBC for news, and make it clear that no president — not even Donald Trump — can dictate what the press reports. But time is running out. The FCC’s reviews of network licenses are already underway, and Trump’s allies are testing how far they can go. If Comcast stays silent now, it signals surrender. We need to flood Comcast with public pressure — before it’s too late. Tell Comcast CEO Mike Cavanagh: Stand up to Trump’s threats. Defend NBC. Defend the First Amendment. Defend democracy.
