In the wake of the recent election, online harassment toward women has surged dramatically. A recent report highlights how platforms like YouTube and X (formerly Twitter) have become hotbeds for misogynistic abuse, with posts targeting women increasing by a significant margin since Election Day. These attacks include a surge of posts using the phrase “your body, my choice" and a 663% increase in posts calling for repealing the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote more than a century ago. Allowing this type of abuse and hate to go unchecked not only puts women’s safety and mental health at risk but also compromises the quality and integrity of our digital spaces. Social media platforms have faced repeated criticism for failing to address this growing problem. Weak moderation policies are allowing harmful narratives to gain traction, reinforcing a culture of online misogyny and intimidation. We call on Big Tech companies to step up and implement stricter policies to combat online misogyny. By increasing moderation efforts, enforcing existing rules against harassment, and providing better support for those targeted, these platforms can help make digital spaces safer for everyone. Let’s work together to ensure that women’s voices are respected, heard, and protected online. Sign this petition to demand that social media platforms take a stand against misogynistic abuse.
