Tell Big Banks: Stop AI From Draining Our Bank Accounts

AI agents are getting into Americans' bank accounts and some appear to be taking actions their users never requested. Now, America's biggest banks are scrambling to protect people's money.

An October 22 Axios investigation revealed that AI agents are operating inside customer accounts, sometimes appearing to act beyond their users' instructions. JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Morgan Stanley are among the financial giants confronting the risks as AI companies push their technology deeper into Americans' financial lives.

And the warnings are getting louder. New reporting reveals that major banks are already preparing for a possible AI-related catastrophe, including plans to secure accounts and restore customer access if something goes terribly wrong.

Your life savings shouldn't become a testing ground for reckless AI technology.

Tell America's biggest banks: Protect our savings from unauthorized AI transactions.

Imagine opening your banking app and discovering that an AI assistant transferred money you never told it to touch. Your rent payment could bounce. Your account could be overdrawn. Your family's savings could suddenly become inaccessible.

And who's responsible when something goes wrong? The bank? The AI company? Or the customer who never authorized the transaction?

Some major banks are already restricting unapproved AI agents. But temporary blocks and updated terms of service aren't enough. Customers need lasting safeguards that prevent unauthorized transactions — and clear commitments from banks to investigate problems and resolve losses when their protections fail.

Banks must also proactively warn customers about the dangers of giving AI tools access to their accounts. People deserve clear warnings about sharing banking credentials, what AI agents might be able to do with that access, and how to protect themselves.

As third-party AI agents become more powerful and widespread, banks must require explicit customer approval for AI-initiated transfers, make it easy to revoke access, and establish clear accountability when unauthorized transactions occur.

Americans shouldn't have to gamble their financial security on an AI experiment.

Add your name: Demand that America's biggest banks establish lasting protections before unauthorized AI transactions become financial disasters.

The petition to JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Morgan Stanley, and Citigroup reads:

“Establish lasting protections against unauthorized AI transactions. Proactively warn customers about the risks of giving AI tools access to their bank accounts. Require explicit customer approval before AI agents move money, let customers revoke access immediately, and ensure unauthorized transactions are promptly investigated under clear procedures for resolving financial losses. Customers must remain in control of their savings.”
